Canada for a day.

I know I am usually trying to get to a beach but sometimes my travels take me to unexpected places. This time I went to Canada.

I have been working in Cleveland for a while now and had a long weekend with my other plans falling through. I decided to make a tour around Lake Erie.

I started my travels along the highway headed to Detroit. I had crossed this way once before around 2003 when I wasn’t doing so well in life but that is a story over several beers.

This time as I hit the bridge to go to Canada I got to wave goodbye to Ol’ Glory as I passed under her.

One thing I did notice as I was crossing over is the amount of rust and deterioration along the bridges. I am sure they are still sturdy but it seems we need to invest in infrastructure soon.

The border itself was pretty easy to get through. They asked where I was going and how long I planned on staying. Since this was just a weekend trip they let me pass by pretty quick.

Once I was past the border town, I noticed the abundance of wind turbines. They peppered the entire landscape.

I made a few stops in the more rural areas to get a sense of normal Canadian life. Most things were exactly like we have in the States with a few key exceptions.

One was they have this place called Picard’s

It is a snack shop with an assortments of nut based items. I purchased several things for the rest of my trip. Most notably was the yogurt covered peanuts. Delicious!

I stayed outside of Toronto the first night and after a massage, I went back to my room and passed out.

The next morning I was excited to visit Niagara. I had been there before but only on the US side.

The town outside the Falls had every tourist attraction you could imagine. There were Haunted Houses .

Wax museums.

Just about any anything you could want to stop and spend you day at.

I was looking for the main attraction. Niagara Falls.

My first view was stunning.

I then started getting camera happy trying to get the perfect picture.

Here are a few of my attempts and getting a better shot.

I also found a rainbow and got a few pics of that.

I also got some pretty great pics of the main falls as I was next to them. The Canadian side is way cooler.

This was going behind the falls.

More behind the falls in a tunnel. It was super cold.

Now on to food!! The one thing I wanted to find was Poutine. I found a place called “Smoke’s Poutinerie” It was a build your own Poutine. Which is basically gravy fries but on a whole new level.

Hope you enjoy reading about my Canada trip as much as I liked taking it.

If there is a place you’d like me to visit or write about let me know. I may have already been there.

If you have a favorite Poutine, let me know I will try it on my next trip.
